Life Narrated by Nature
Rhonda Lashley Lopez
“This is how I survive the news of the day. It’s what I need, and what we all really need in our lonely, disconnected souls: to open our arms to the Earth’s wonders, to wrap our hearts around the solace it offers, treading gingerly, paying attention, with gratitude.”_Rhonda Lashley Lopez
Led by open grasslands and river streams, artist Rhonda Lashley Lopez captures trees, birds, and insects with her camera. She listens to the stories of the wind, soil, rocks, greens, and the seas, and sometimes to silence. The photos in this book are like poems that express the artist’s awe at the beauty and mystery of nature that surrounds us day and night. Lopez works through a special printing process in which she takes deeply meditated moments in nature and paints them with gold or captures them on paper using a unique photochemical process. Much like the products of alchemy, her images are results of the transformation of natural light into tangible material. Such delicate practices are carried into the making of this book through production details that include silkscreen printing, handmade wooden cases, and traditional binding techniques. This book was printed in a limited edition of 100 copies that comes with an original print and a special edition of 20 copies that include an additional artwork from the book.
