Mary T Faria
“We come into this world alone and leave alone. In between, the relationships and experiences we have leave impressions. In the stillness of her photographic practice, Mary unmasks an integration of polarities and paradoxes. At the threshold of dawn, the presence of shadows recalls the familiar while pointing to the unknown. The light of the surrounding natural world projects benevolence into empty rooms while allowing sorrow its own space. Unknowingly, she charts for the viewer a journey to wholeness.” _Anne Veh
The artist, who witnessed the process of their parents leaving this world, creates a sensory and spiritual connection to life and death at the threshold of existence. This book is a sensitive photo essay that embarks on a journey to discover one’s essence through photography. The artist’s childhood home and garden, fragments of the remaining life, blueprints of her own body, and inner soliloquies intersect. Moments of disappearance, subtle emotions, and fragments of thoughts become memories of light entering through the window and are captured on paper. This book is composed of the artist’s unique imagery and words, telling a story of the inevitable loss of death that every human faces, yet continues to live on the boundary of life.
