Arranging Life
Seongyeon Jo
“One day as I looked at a germinated bean sprout, it occurred to me that a seed is not the trace of a life that has ended, but a condensation of infinite energy carrying a new beginning. The seeds, which seemed breathless and made not the slightest movement, were preparing to encounter the world, with just the help of light, air and water. Filled with warmth, they were small universes embracing the force of life.” _Seongyeon Jo
Seongyeon Jo investigated and analyzed the process of growth and extinction of seeds for a long time with the attitude of a botanist, since she began to experience life as an urban farmer a few years ago. Jo has worked on sophisticated and static photography by expanding the viewpoint, noticing the order in nature and materiality as she has cultivated her own crops. The abandoned and dead things gained new breath and are reborn as the book ‘Arranging Life’. This book carries the result of her meditated observations, the artist’s embracing of the process of life, perceiving the birth and extinction of nature as one.
