‘TINs’ is the first of the Datz Press Collectorz Book series. Ruth Silverman, a photography curator who lived in Berkeley, CA, had collected and photographed over one thousand tins before she passed away in 2015. The former ICP curator, publisher, and gallerist left this small, yet intimate and deeply personal book. Silverman’s photographs, taken with a compact point-and-shoot camera, are neither flashy nor perfect, but they readily display the collector’s affection for finding joy in everyday, ordinary objects. Seeing and loving the world with curious eyes, Silverman passed away on April 10, 2015—the same day as her birthday, exactly as she wanted and willed.
