“My collages begin with the body. I print images of the human figure of transparencies, so that the surface of the skin is literally rendered invisible. I can peer right through it to the mystery underneath. I have collected insect wings, bandaging gauze, train tracks, door hinges, sheet music, historical maps, hand written letters and more. I stitch and glue these pieces together like words in a poem, writing a story of growth and healing.” _Mary Daniel Hobson

For over twenty-five years, the artist has paired photography with collage and sculpture to see below the surface. By layering tactile materials, she expresses a deeper psychological complexity and navigates an inner world. All of these pieces contain the artist’s personal history, and sometimes her own figure, but they are not self-portraits; they are a way to touch the universal. ‘Offerings’ is her first monograph and includes five series of the works, which were created from 1996 through 2018. This limited edition of 300 books has been published with 50 limited special edition boxes containing original prints and accordion cards featuring the series ‘Milagros’.
