“I am deeply interested in how to get photography, which so handily describes the facts of our worlds, to also move our spirits closer to the silent places where other realities and mysteries reside. The astronomical images are a visual reminder of where we are all the time. We keep thinking we are down here, in our own little worlds.” _Linda Connor
Over the past 50 years, Linda Connor has made numerous pilgrimages to countries harboring traces of primordial human life and relics of the past with her 8×10 large-format camera. She has left places familiar to her and has gone exploring in the spiritual places of remote lands, moving back in time in search of the connecting points between the present and the lives of the past. Like a conjuror decrypting the codes of the universe, she connects the signs of the visible world. These images, collected at the doorway to the world that cannot be seen while standing on this land, lead to countless questions about heaven and earth, the sacred and profane, and humans and the universe transcending time and space. She demonstrates that, like the constellations, the universe will reveal itself to those who can connect, name, and imagine.
The book includes glass plate images from her collaboration with Lick Observatory. The book of text paired with the publication is a collection of articles dedicated to Linda’s life and work by fellow artists, students, and friends who have watched Linda’s works for a long time. The articles of love and respect from artists living in the same era of art, forms a unique and beautiful constellation surrounding the life of the artist beyond the universality of her images.
